Diplomatic meetings held between Cyprus and Lebanon leadership

President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides held meetings at the Presidential Palace with the Foreign Minister of Lebanon, Abdallah Bou Habib, and received the credentials of the new Lebanese Ambassador to Cyprus, Reina Charbel. During these discussions, the President emphasized the importance of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, describing them as a priority for Cyprus. The Cypriot government is actively working within the European Union framework to initiate a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the EU and Lebanon, following similar initiatives with Jordan and Egypt. President Christodoulides has communicated this urgency to the President of the European Commission. Both parties acknowledged the strong historical, political, and economic ties between the two nations. Key milestones in the bilateral relationship include the 2022 maritime border agreement regarding the Exclusive Economic Zone. Furthermore, the President highlighted ongoing cooperation in energy, trade, education, and tourism, noting the potential for further expansion of these collaborative efforts.
