Hellenic Air Force F-16 makes emergency landing in Zakynthos
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, a Greek Air Force F-16 fighter jet performed an emergency landing at Zakynthos International Airport. The aircraft, reportedly from the 116th Combat Wing at Araxos, was conducting a training flight over the Ionian region when the incident occurred. Reports indicate that the pilot detected an fire warning in the cockpit, which prompted the emergency maneuver. The pilot landed the aircraft safely and remains in good health. He was subsequently transported by military helicopter to the Andravida air base for precautionary medical examinations. Two fire trucks were dispatched to the airport scene as a standard safety measure. Airport operations were temporarily suspended to allow for the removal of the aircraft and the clearing of the runway. An assessment of potential damage to the fighter jet is currently underway.
