Arrest of 19-year-old following altercation with police in Limassol

On July 9, 2026, a 19-year-old male was involved in a confrontation with a Limassol traffic police officer. The incident began at 4:30 PM when the officer attempted to stop a pickup truck without registration plates. The driver, instead of complying, committed multiple traffic violations and ran a red light while evading pursuit. The driver eventually stopped and reversed his vehicle into the officer's motorcycle, causing minor injuries. In response, the officer fired three shots at the vehicle's tires, though the suspect successfully fled the scene. The injured officer received medical treatment at the Limassol General Hospital and was subsequently discharged.
