Sokratis Famellos resigns as leader of SYRIZA
Sokratis Famellos has announced his resignation from the position of president of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party. Famellos had assumed the leadership on November 24, 2024, serving in the role for approximately 1.5 months. In his statement, he highlighted his efforts to restore the party's credibility, reorganize its internal structures, and hold a successful party congress. He emphasized that during his tenure, the party addressed significant financial liabilities, including debts to banks, the state, and suppliers. Furthermore, he noted the restructuring efforts within the party-affiliated media outlets, 'Avgi' and 'Sto Kokkino,' including the settlement of employee wages and state debts. Famellos described his goal as transforming the party into a unified, progressive force capable of competing in future parliamentary elections. While he outlined his achievements in restoring financial and institutional stability, his tenure was relatively brief, leaving the party once again in a leadership transition period.
