EU member states confirm new appointments for Court of Justice of the European Union
On Friday, the Permanent Representatives of the EU member states ratified the appointment of Stefani Loli Siailou as an Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) representing Cyprus. She succeeds Nicolaos Emiliou, and will serve the remainder of his term, which ends on October 6, 2027. Siailou is a Professor of European Law and Reform and Dean of the Law School at the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus. Concurrently, the Council approved the reappointment of Koen Lenaerts as a judge at the CJEU for a new six-year term, covering the period from October 7, 2027, to October 6, 2033. This decision is part of a partial renewal of the Court, as the terms of 14 judges and six advocates general expire on October 6, 2027. These appointments will become official upon their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Judges and advocates general are appointed by common accord of the governments of the member states after consulting a special panel on the suitability of candidates.
