Investigation opened following violent protest against military recruitment in Lviv

Ukrainian authorities have initiated two criminal investigations into a violent incident that occurred in Lviv on Wednesday during a military recruitment check. The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the inquiry involves interactions between military personnel, police, and approximately 200 civilians. Social media footage shows a crowd surrounding a military vehicle, chanting, damaging the windshield, and eventually overturning the car. The regional recruitment center stated the incident began when an individual was detained for violating mobilization regulations. While the recruitment center described the crowd as aggressive, witnesses and digital footage highlight significant public hostility toward the recruitment process. Police are also investigating a separate report of an assault on an officer during the disturbance. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi condemned the actions, stating that obstruction of military duties and property destruction are unacceptable. The tensions reflect ongoing public unease regarding the country's military recruitment procedures.
