Lawyer protests delayed legal action regarding Larnaca police station incident
Attorney Alexandros Klerides has formally written to the President of Cyprus and the Minister of Justice to report an unjustified six-month delay in prosecuting individuals involved in a violent incident outside the Larnaca Police Headquarters. The incident, which occurred six months ago, involved a group of people wielding axes and other weapons who damaged property and inflicted serious bodily harm on a person already on the ground. Klerides claims the police have already identified the perpetrators and taken statements from them. Furthermore, the attorney notes that while authorities have not yet filed charges against the attackers, they promptly initiated a criminal case against the victim who suffered the injuries. The letter requests an explanation for this discrepancy in legal handling. The police have previously reported sending a 33-year-old suspect to the Assizes Court and identifying a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the case. No official response regarding the cause of the delay has been provided by the authorities to date.
