Deadly wildfire in Almeria province, Spain
A severe wildfire that broke out on Thursday in Los Gallardos, Almeria province, has resulted in at least 11 to 12 confirmed deaths and left 23 people missing. Authorities, including Regional Minister Antonio Sanz, reported that the fire spread rapidly due to high winds and difficult terrain, potentially triggered by a loose power line. While officials initially urged residents to remain in their homes, many victims attempted to flee by vehicle and were overcome by flames; four of the deceased were likely British citizens. Approximately 1,500 people have been evacuated from the area as of late Friday. Eight people have been reported injured, with four in serious condition requiring air transport to Seville. Emergency services are now employing aggressive firefighting tactics as conditions improve, though search and identification efforts for the victims are ongoing.
