Cyprus and Israel explore potential agricultural technology partnership
On July 9, an event held in Nicosia focused on potential collaboration between Cyprus and Israel in the agricultural sector. The consultancy firm Filagrotiki presented a study commissioned by the Israeli Embassy detailing the creation of a model agricultural center in Cyprus. The proposed facility would showcase advanced Israeli technologies, including software, soil sensors, drones, and satellite imagery, to facilitate knowledge transfer and regional training. The project aims to position Cyprus as a gateway for introducing these innovative agricultural solutions to European markets. During the discussion, representatives from academia and the agricultural sector identified key challenges, including water supply management, limited land availability, and high energy costs. Experts noted that these factors currently make such investments appear costly for local farmers. The Israeli Embassy stated that the findings and recommendations from the study will be evaluated for future implementation.
