UK deploys new Airbus H145 helicopters to RAF Akrotiri

The first of three new Airbus H145 Jupiter HC Mk2 helicopters successfully conducted its maiden flight from the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus. These aircraft are intended to enhance the operational capability of the United Kingdom to respond to crises throughout the Eastern Mediterranean region. The deployment establishes a 24/7, year-round operational response capability for the 84 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. The H145 is designed for a variety of missions, including aerial firefighting, intelligence gathering, and search and rescue operations. Squadron Leader Steven Bradley stated that the new fleet improves the ability to protect and support personnel both in Cyprus and beyond. While reports indicate these helicopters are expected to take over some firefighting duties previously handled by Chinook helicopters, the primary goal remains ensuring high availability through reduced maintenance requirements. The 84 Squadron pilots are currently undergoing training on the new platform.
