Larnaca district assesses 1,084 potentially dangerous buildings

The District Local Government Organisation (DLGO) of Larnaca is managing a register of 1,084 potentially dangerous buildings, an increase from the initial 563 inherited from previous authorities. This figure reflects updated data from site visits and public reports. To date, 310 visual inspections have been commissioned to private civil engineers, with 228 technical reports returned and evaluated. Of the inspected properties, 204 have been officially classified as dangerous, including 116 that are considered at high risk of collapse. The organisation has implemented 31 risk-mitigation actions, such as fencing and requiring owner-led demolitions. Specifically, three buildings have already been demolished by their owners following intervention by the DLGO. Additionally, eight buildings have been formally declared dangerous, with procedures for ten more currently at an advanced stage. The DLGO continues to coordinate repairs and restorations with property owners to ensure public safety.
