Fatal wildfire in Spain's Almeria province
A severe wildfire in the Almeria province of Andalusia, Spain, has resulted in 11 to 12 confirmed fatalities. The blaze broke out near the town of Los Gallardos and the village of Bédar, prompting the evacuation of approximately 600 residents. Regional emergency minister Antonio Sanz reported that victims died while attempting to escape, with four found in a right-hand-drive car and others perishing after attempting to traverse a dry riverbed. Authorities state that identification is currently impossible and samples have been sent to Madrid for DNA analysis. While some reports suggest the victims were mostly British and Belgian nationals, officials have yet to confirm these details. Four additional individuals are currently hospitalized with serious burns. Over 150 firefighters are battling the blaze, and emergency services are conducting ongoing search operations for those still missing.
