New regulations for public service leave in Cyprus
The Cyprus parliament has unanimously passed new regulations regarding annual leave for employees transitioning into the public sector. These changes apply to indefinite-term employees, as well as those transferring from security forces, the armed forces, public education, or public law entities. Under the new rules, employees will retain the number of leave days they accrued under their previous employment contracts. Furthermore, their prior service will be counted toward the future scaling of their leave entitlements. The regulations include a retroactive application date of January 1, 2018. PASYDY, the major public service union, supported the move, stating it addresses a long-standing issue of unequal treatment. The union confirmed its role in the consultations and stated it will continue to monitor the implementation of these regulations.
