Ryanair flight makes emergency landing in Thessaloniki following window failure
On Friday, July 10, a Ryanair flight departing from Thessaloniki for Germany was forced to return to Makedonia airport shortly after take-off due to an in-flight incident. Reports conflict on whether the destination was Munich or Memmingen, with Ryanair confirming the latter. During the flight, a loud noise was reported followed by the shattering of a cabin window, which caused cabin decompression and the deployment of oxygen masks. A 61-year-old Serbian passenger seated by the window was reportedly pulled partially out of the opening by air pressure before being secured by fellow travelers. The pilot returned the aircraft to the airport where it landed safely and passengers were moved to a replacement plane. One passenger was transported to AHEPA hospital with neck injuries, while another passenger was briefly examined at Ippokrateio hospital. Initial reports suggested the window broke due to engine failure, though investigations into the exact cause of the structural failure are ongoing.
