Andy Burnham moves closer to Labour Party leadership and prime minister role

If he reaches this threshold before July 16, he will be declared leader and is scheduled to assume the role of prime minister on July 20. British Cypriot MPs Nesil Caliskan and Bambos Charalambous are among those who have officially nominated him. Burnham previously served as the mayor of Greater Manchester and recently won a by-election in Makerfield. In a public statement, he expressed gratitude for the support and outlined his platform, which focuses on decentralizing power from Westminster and restructuring the economy. Some MPs who were unable to cast their votes on Thursday are expected to support him upon their return to Parliament.
