Ukrainian authorities investigate murder of Monaco bombing suspect

Ukrainian courts have ordered the detention of two men suspected of murdering 39-year-old Anastasia Berezovska. Berezovska was a suspect in a June 29 bombing in Monaco that injured Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaev, his partner, and his son. French authorities had identified Berezovska via security footage, noting she escaped through Italy before returning to Ukraine. Her body was found with gunshot wounds in a wooded area near Kyiv. The suspects in custody include an active officer of the HUR military intelligence service and a former law enforcement officer. While initial reports indicated a confession, the HUR officer later retracted it, claiming the other suspect committed the killing under duress. Ukrainian authorities stated the suspects had made payments to the victim prior to her death. Yermolaev, who holds Cypriot citizenship, has been subject to Ukrainian sanctions due to his business interests in Russian-occupied Crimea.
