Cypriot government denies citizenship to woman seeking evacuation from Gaza

A 24-year-old woman, claiming descent from a Cypriot great-grandmother, has publicly appealed to the Republic of Cyprus for assistance in evacuating her family from Gaza. The woman states she and her family have been trapped in the war zone for over three years. In a video published by the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Ozgur Gazete, she alleged that she had reached out to the Cypriot representative office in Ramallah for 20 months without receiving a resolution. Marios Stavrou, head of the Republic’s representative office in Ramallah, stated that the woman is not a citizen because her great-grandmother did not pass on citizenship to the next generation. The Cypriot Foreign Ministry confirmed that she does not hold national status. While the woman claims her communications were ignored, Stavrou stated that his office had been in contact with her. The situation remains unresolved regarding her evacuation request.
