Power outages reported in Lakatamia and across Cyprus

On Sunday, parts of Lakatamia, including Agios Mamas, Anthoupolis, and areas near Nicosia Mall, experienced power cuts starting between 1:06 pm and 1:10 pm. EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou stated that the outage was caused by an underground cable fault, possibly due to heat or moisture, with full restoration expected by 4:30 pm. Separately, a wider power failure occurred across Cyprus on Friday starting at 8:10 pm. The Cyprus Transmission System Operator confirmed that this incident was caused by a fault in the production system that led to the shutdown of a unit at the Vasiliko power station. The incidents are unrelated and represent distinct technical issues reported within the local electricity network. No casualties or major infrastructure damage were reported in connection with either event.
