Recent power outages in Cyprus
Cyprus experienced two separate electricity supply incidents on July 10 and July 12, 2026. On Friday, July 10, a technical failure at the Vasiliko Power Station resulted in the loss of a 60 MW production unit at 20:10, causing widespread outages across the island. The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSM) reported that full restoration was achieved by 20:37 the same evening. A separate, localized incident occurred on Sunday, July 12, in Lakatamia, affecting areas such as Agios Mamas, Anthoupolis, and parts of the Archangelos-Anthoupolis area near the Nicosia Mall. This outage lasted from 13:06 to 13:10. According to Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) representative Christina Papadopoulou, the local event was caused by an underground cable fault, potentially exacerbated by high temperatures and humidity. Restoration work for the Lakatamia incident was ongoing with an estimated completion time of 16:30.
