Typhoon Bavi impacts Taiwan and mainland China
Typhoon Bavi, which originated as a super typhoon near Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, has caused significant weather disruption across East Asia. After passing through the Sakishima Islands of Japan and moving near Taiwan, the storm brought high winds and heavy rainfall to mainland China. In Taiwan, authorities reported the cancellation of over 900 flights and the evacuation of 14,000 residents. Mainland China experienced severe flooding in Hebei and Liaoning provinces, with water levels in Quancheng reaching two meters and approximately 1,800 villagers trapped by floodwaters. Estimates regarding evacuations in China vary, with reports citing figures between 600,000 and 1.72 million people displaced. In Zhejiang province, the storm resulted in over 1,300 fallen trees and massive coastal waves. Local officials in Liaoning issued a red alert, prioritizing the relocation of residents as emergency operations continue.
