Annual memorial service held for the 2011 Mari naval base explosion victims

A memorial service was held at the Evangelos Florakis naval base in Mari to honor the 13 individuals who died in a massive explosion on July 11, 2011. President Nikos Christodoulides, along with various government officials, including the President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou and several ministers, attended the event. The ceremony took place at the Holy Church of New Martyrs within the naval base, with Metropolitan Gregorios of Paphos officiating. President Christodoulides delivered a speech after inspecting the National Guard honor guard. Attendees observed a minute of silence, laid wreaths, and sang the national anthem. The victims included officers and petty officers of the Naval Command as well as firefighters from the EMAK unit. Representatives from the police and fire services also participated in the proceedings.
