New e-waste recycling facility planned for South Nicosia-Idalio

WEEE Cyprus Ltd is planning the construction of a new recycling facility for electronic waste, batteries, and expired medicines in the South Nicosia-Idalio municipality. The project, with an estimated cost of €1.3 million, involves converting an existing industrial warehouse into a site for receiving, sorting, dismantling, and storing waste. Implementation is being handled by Flanxo Holdings Ltd, with the non-profit organization WEEE Cyprus Ltd acting as the manager. WEEE Cyprus is currently the only licensed collective compliance scheme for e-waste in the country and collaborates with Green Dot (Cyprus). The facility will have an annual capacity of approximately 5,190 tonnes of waste. Operations will include the processing of large and small electrical appliances, screens, refrigerators, air conditioning units, toner cartridges, and fluorescent bulbs. A mandatory requirement for all waste accepted is the absence of any liquid residues. The initiative aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and improve material recovery processes.
