Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides continues training in Japan
21-year-old Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides is currently participating in a training camp at the Nippon Sport Science University in Japan. This follows his performance at the Grand Prix in Qingdao, China, where he finished in 9th place. The result moved him to 29th in the world rankings, marking a significant start to his qualification journey for the 2028 Olympic Games. During the Grand Prix, Christodoulides defeated the Russian champion before being eliminated by the two-time Japanese Olympic gold medalist Hifumi Abe. The athlete stated that the experience increased his self-confidence and proved his ability to compete at the highest level. His current training in Japan is focused on preparing for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. He continues to pursue his long-term goal of Olympic qualification with the support of his sponsors and affiliated organizations.
