Cyprus government announces additional 61.7 million euro investment in public hospitals
President Nikos Christodoulides announced an additional investment of 61.7 million euros for public hospital infrastructure projects across Cyprus. This new funding brings the total government investment in the sector to 206.7 million euros, following a previously announced 145 million euro program. Planned projects include the construction of a new hospital in Polis Chrysochous, which is part of the initial phase. The new allocation will fund the second and third phases of the Athalassa Mental Health Center and the creation of a new infectious diseases unit at the Nicosia General Hospital. Upgrades to the intensive care unit and the pathology department are also included in the plan. The President stated that the projects are intended to improve healthcare quality and working conditions for medical staff. He attributed these investments to the current government's economic policy, which seeks to reinvest fiscal growth into public services like health, education, and social housing.
