Former professional footballer Manu dies in car accident at age 43

Portuguese footballer Manu, aged 43, died in a car accident on the evening of Saturday, July 11. The incident occurred when the vehicle he was driving veered off the road in the Sobral de Monte Agraco region near Lisbon. Manu began his professional career at Benfica, where he played from 2004 to 2008 and made 17 appearances for the first team. He was well-known in Greece for his loan spell at AEK Athens during the 2007-08 season. Additionally, he had two stints in Cyprus with Ermis Aradippou, playing during parts of the 2013-2015 period. During his time in the Cypriot league, he recorded 25 appearances and scored four goals. Following the news of his death, Benfica issued an official statement expressing condolences for their former player.
