Authorities seize large shipment of cannabis products at Larnaca airport
On July 9, the Cyprus Customs Department and the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) intercepted two courier parcels at Larnaca airport originating from another European Union member state. The shipments, which were suspiciously declared as souvenirs, contained approximately 1,600 items weighing 24 kilograms, including tea, coffee, chewing gum, gummies, and various vaping products. Laboratory assessments suggest these items contain cannabis or synthetic cannabinoid substances. Following the seizure, authorities arrested a 31-year-old man identified as the recipient and a 23-year-old woman working at a Limassol shop linked to the distribution. A subsequent search of the Limassol premises resulted in the discovery and confiscation of additional cannabinoid-related products. The YKAN Limassol unit is continuing the investigation into the case. While early local reports initially provided varying weights for specific components, subsequent official statements confirmed the total seized shipment weight at 24 kilograms.
