One fatality following a factory fire in Aspropyrgos

A 54-year-old man died on Sunday at the KAT hospital following severe burns sustained during a fire at a factory in Aspropyrgos on July 9, 2026. The incident, which occurred at a business dealing with spare parts, scrap, and logistics at the intersection of Megaridos and Chiou streets, resulted in a total of 11 injuries. Initial findings suggest the fire ignited during oxy-acetylene welding work, potentially triggered by a cigarette spark. Three individuals sustained critical burns; the deceased was among two hospitalized at the KAT facility with burns covering 90% of his body. A second patient remains in critical condition at the KAT intensive care unit with burns over 75% of his body. A third individual is currently intubated at the burn unit of the G. Gennimatas hospital. Authorities continue to monitor the status of the surviving victims.
