Cyprus government meets with US Department of Homeland Security officials
Deputy Minister to the President, Irene Piki, met with US Assistant Secretary for Strategy, Policy and Plans at the Department of Homeland Security, Rob Law, during his visit to Cyprus on July 12, 2026. The discussions centered on regional security, stability, law enforcement cooperation, information exchange, and migration management. A key item on the agenda was the potential inclusion of Cyprus in the US Visa Waiver Program. Officials noted that while Cyprus is technically ready for the program, the final decision remains with the US authorities, with no clear timeline established. Rob Law was accompanied by Deputy Assistant Secretary John Gountanis as part of a regional tour. The American delegation also held meetings with the Deputy Ministry of Migration to address portfolio-specific issues. The visit underscores the ongoing strategic cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States in the Eastern Mediterranean.
