British tourist remanded after three-year-old son dies in Paphos hotel fall

A 37-year-old British tourist has been remanded in custody for eight days by the Paphos District Court following the death of his three-year-old son. The child fell from the fourth floor of a hotel in Chlorakas on the evening of Sunday, July 12, while waiting for a lift with his father and grandfather. A post-mortem conducted by forensic pathologists Aggeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou confirmed the child died from severe traumatic brain injury and multiple internal injuries. The father, who was not represented by a lawyer during the hearing, faces potential charges of causing death by reckless, negligent, or dangerous acts, as well as failure in his duty of care. Reports suggest the father was playing with the child or had placed him on a window ledge, mistakenly believing it was closed, when the boy fell. Police are currently conducting further investigations, including toxicology tests on the father and gathering witness statements. The British High Commission is providing consular assistance to the family, who had arrived in Cyprus for a holiday just a day prior to the incident.
