Funding for migration and security in Cyprus for 2021-2027
For the 2021-2027 programming period, approximately 480 million euros have been allocated to Cyprus for projects concerning migration, border management, and internal security. The total budget consists of funds from the European Union's Internal Affairs Funds and national contributions. While initial funding was set at 162 million euros, the amount increased following decisions by the European Commission and additional approvals. To date, the European Commission has approved 303 million euros in direct funding. The programs involved are the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI), and the Internal Security Fund (ISF). These funds are managed by the Directorate of European Funds of the Ministry of Interior. Resources are directed toward reception structures, asylum processing, repatriation of irregular migrants, integration programs, and the enhancement of government information systems. The implementation covers a wide range of administrative and infrastructure needs.
