Cypriot public figures propose electoral reform for parliamentary elections

A group of prominent Cypriot public figures has sent a formal letter to parliamentary political parties proposing the implementation of a "limited cross-voting" system. Under this proposal, voters would continue to select their preferred party, with seat distribution remaining proportional to party strength. Additionally, voters would be granted the ability to cast one supplementary preference vote for a candidate, either from their chosen party or from a different party. The initiative is supported by a diverse group of signatories, including former government ministers, former members of the European Parliament, academics, artists, and local officials. Notable signatories include Ioannis Kasoulides, Marinos Kleanthous, Anna Marangou, Sophocles Sophocleous, and Takis Hadjigeorgiou. The proposal aims to modify the existing electoral process for future parliamentary elections. No formal response from the political parties has been issued yet regarding this initiative.
