Fire at Bangkok pub leaves 30 dead and dozens injured

A fire broke out at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok, Thailand, around midnight on Sunday. While initial reports cited a death toll of 27, officials confirmed on Tuesday that the number of fatalities had risen to 30. Dozens of people were injured, with 22 to 24 individuals reported to be in critical condition at various times. The venue, a single-storey building, was engulfed in flames that eyewitnesses described as an explosion followed by a horizontal burst of fire. Investigations suggest an electrical short circuit in a ceiling air conditioner may have triggered the blaze, which spread rapidly. Authorities are currently investigating potential negligence, specifically concerning blocked emergency exits, the use of flammable soundproofing materials, and overloaded wiring. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has announced a committee to review safety rules and conduct random inspections. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul noted that many victims were found in the bathroom, where they had unsuccessfully attempted to seek shelter.
