Forest fire spreads near Paris as France experiences third heatwave
A severe forest fire broke out on Sunday in the Fontainebleau forest, located 60 kilometers southeast of Paris, amid France's third heatwave of the year. Authorities reported that approximately 8,000 decares of the 200,000-decare forest have been affected. To combat the flames, two Canadair aircraft were deployed, marking a rare use of firefighting air support in the Paris region. More than 500 firefighters are expected to arrive as reinforcements. The fire led to the partial closure of the A6 motorway, a major transit route for the country. Separately, officials noted that other fires in the Seine-et-Marne region have burned nearly 4,000 decares before being brought under control. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot also confirmed that another fire previously disrupted a high-speed TGV train line heading south. The region remains under a red alert for extreme heat conditions.
