Cyprus police await instructions on Mafia State book inquiry
The Cyprus Police confirmed they are holding a report from the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority regarding allegations raised in the book 'Mafia State' by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. Police spokesperson Byron Byronos stated that the document is currently in the possession of the Chief of Police but has not yet been reviewed by force members. The investigation into claims of corruption and institutional malpractice is being transitioned to independent criminal investigators. The police are not conducting an independent probe at this stage. Officials stated that they are prepared to provide assistance if requested by the appointed criminal investigators. To date, there has been no direct communication between the appointed investigators and the police force regarding this case. The situation remains in a state of administrative standby.
