Cyprus state workforce data for June 2026

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat), the total number of state employees reached 55,162 in June 2026, representing a 0.6 percent increase compared to June 2025. This growth of 333 employees was primarily driven by a 3.5 percent rise in the educational service, which now employs 18,335 people. Conversely, employment in the civil service fell by 1.2 percent to 23,096, and the security forces saw a marginal decline of 0.1 percent to 13,731. Regarding employment categories, workers on fixed-term contracts saw the largest increase at 2.9 percent, reaching 6,007. Permanent staff rose slightly by 0.1 percent to 32,852, while employees with indefinite duration contracts increased by 1.2 percent to 9,544. Hourly paid staff rose by 0.1 percent to 6,759. The significant 99.6 percent drop in fixed-term staff within the security forces was attributed to the non-renewal of contracts in July 2025. Overall, the average number of state employees for the first half of 2026 increased by 0.2 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
