Cypriot athletes compete at the 5th U18 European Athletics Championships

The 5th European Athletics U18 Championships began on July 16, 2026, in Rieti, Italy, with 1,100 athletes participating. Cyprus sent an 11-member delegation, with 10 athletes competing on the first day. Marina Hadjikosta qualified for the discus throw final with a distance of 54.44 meters. In the hammer throw, Anastasios Maratheftis (71.05m) and Achilleas Grigoriou qualified for the final. Katerina Karayianni successfully qualified for the 100m semifinals. Renos Komodromou was eliminated in the 800m heats, finishing 32nd overall with a time of 1:59.33, attributed to a slow race pace and being boxed in. The competition concludes on July 19, 2026.
