Cyprus and Greece perform at the U18 European Athletics Championships in Rieti

At the 2026 U18 European Athletics Championships in Rieti, Italy, Cyprus secured a gold medal in the girls' discus throw via Marina Hatzikosta, who recorded a distance of 56.17m. Meanwhile, Eleni Iakovaki of Greece won the gold medal in the 400m race with a national record time of 52.38 seconds, defeating Hungary's Sofia Emmanuel. Cypriot athlete Andreas Savva placed 16th in the 110m hurdles after reaching the semifinals with a personal best of 13.75 seconds. In the boys' hammer throw final, Anastasios Maratheftis finished 7th with 70.73m, while Achilleas Grigoriou placed 9th. Anthi Apostolidou also secured 7th place in the girls' hammer throw final with a best effort of 63.04m. Additionally, sprinter Katerina Karagianni reached the 100m semifinals but narrowly missed the final, finishing 10th overall.
