Yemen government strikes Sanaa airport to block Iranian aircraft
The internationally recognized Yemeni government, supported by Saudi Arabia, announced on Monday that it conducted a military strike against the airport in the capital city of Sanaa. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the target of the strike was the airport's runway. The stated objective of the operation was to prevent the landing of an incoming Iranian aircraft. Sanaa is currently under the control of the Houthi movement, which maintains close ties with Iran. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree attributed the strike to Saudi Arabian military forces and described the event as an act of aggression. Saree formally warned that the Houthi forces would retaliate against the strike. The internationally recognized government operates from its base in Aden, located in the southern part of the country.
