Andreas Charalambous appointed as new head of Cyprus Fiscal Council

Economist Dr. Andreas Charalambous has officially assumed the role of President of the Cyprus Fiscal Council, effective July 13, 2026. He succeeds Michalis Persianis, who served in the position since 2022. While official reports mention his departure as part of a leadership transition, some sources note that Persianis left before the conclusion of his six-year term. Charalambous holds a PhD in economics from the University of Heidelberg and has extensive experience in the public and financial sectors. His previous roles include serving as Director of Economic Research and EU Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, and Government Commissioner at the Cyprus Stock Exchange. The Fiscal Council is an independent advisory body responsible for monitoring fiscal policy and ensuring compliance with European Union regulations. The appointment ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance, attended by Finance Minister Makis Keravnos.
