European Commission approves 120 million euro payment to Cyprus

The European Commission has approved Cyprus's sixth payment request for 120 million euros under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, part of the NextGenerationEU program. This decision follows the successful completion of 22 milestones and 5 targets covering healthcare, education, public administration, business environment, and green transition reforms. Key reforms include a new school evaluation system, a cross-border health data exchange for electronic prescriptions, flexible work arrangements in the public sector, and digital upgrades for construction permits. The request was originally submitted by Cyprus on December 17, 2025. The European Commission's preliminary assessment has been sent to the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), which has four weeks to provide an opinion before the final disbursement is authorized. Once this payment is completed, the total funding provided to Cyprus will reach 683 million euros, accounting for 67% of the total 1.02 billion euro grant scheme. This approval remains subject to the final formal decision of the European Commission.
