Limassol police investigate 135,000 euro cryptocurrency fraud

Police in Limassol, Cyprus, are investigating a major online fraud case involving a 60-year-old woman who lost 135,000 euros. The victim reported that in June, she received an email appearing to be from an online bank, advertising high-return cryptocurrency investment opportunities. Following instructions from the sender via a messaging app, she registered on an online trading platform and created a digital wallet. She transferred 135,000 euros from her local bank account to the platform. Shortly after, the funds were transferred without her consent to various inaccessible cryptocurrency wallets. The Financial Crime Investigation Office of the Limassol CID is currently handling the case. Authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution, advising citizens to only engage with recognized companies and licensed financial advisors. They also emphasized that bank details and personal passwords must never be shared with third parties.
