South Carolina appoints interim senator following death of Lindsey Graham

Nordone is expected to be sworn in this week and will serve until early January, completing her brother's original term. This appointment followed a recommendation from former President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the South Carolina Republican Party has scheduled primary elections for August 11 to determine a candidate for the upcoming November general election. If no candidate secures a majority, a runoff will take place on August 25. The eventual nominee will face Democrat Annie Andrews in the November election. It remains uncertain whether Nordone intends to pursue the nomination for a full term.
