Three suspects to face charges for deadly arson attack in Thessaloniki

On July 14, 2026, three individuals are scheduled to appear before an investigative magistrate in Thessaloniki regarding an arson attack that occurred on July 1. The attack on the home of Afroditi Nestora resulted in the death of her mother, Vagia Nestora, and left four others injured. Authorities have arrested a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman as the primary perpetrators, both linked to anti-establishment circles. A 24-year-old male was also arrested for providing a safe house used by the suspects before and after the attack. Evidence against the suspects includes video footage from a camera they failed to notice despite using an umbrella to obscure their identity, as well as mobile phones recovered by police. Charges of homicide with possible intent have been filed against the group. Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Unit continues its investigation into two other arson attacks on the same day targeting the New Democracy party local headquarters and the home of former Member of Parliament Savvas Anastasiadis.
