No arrests made in 2016 fatal stabbing of British national in Ayia Napa
Nearly a decade after the 2016 fatal stabbing of 22-year-old British estate agent George Low in Ayia Napa, no arrests have been made. During the same attack, Low's friend Ben Barker was also stabbed multiple times but survived. Cyprus Police issued international arrest warrants for two suspects, Sali Ahmet and Mehmet Akpinar, who fled to the northern part of the island shortly after the incident. It is believed that the suspects subsequently traveled to Turkey, which does not extradite its citizens. While the Turkish embassy in London previously stated an investigation was underway regarding Akpinar, they recently confirmed that prosecutors have decided not to pursue the case. No information has been provided regarding the status of Sali Ahmet. The victim's mother, Helen Low, described the lack of progress as exhausting and disappointing. The case remains at a standstill due to a lack of legal cooperation frameworks and the absence of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cyprus and Turkey.
