Customs computer system failure causes delays at Limassol Port
A technical failure in the Customs Department's accounting system has caused significant disruptions at Limassol Port. According to departmental spokesperson Giorgos Konstantinou, the issue began last Friday and affects the sub-system responsible for collecting duties and taxes, preventing electronic payments and cargo releases. While Customs officials state the problem started Friday, workers report that the Automated Import System (AIS) began showing issues as early as Thursday. The failure has led to the accumulation of approximately 1,000 to 1,200 containers, with delays currently ranging from one to two days. Attempts to repair the system over the weekend were unsuccessful, and a temporary fix attempted on Tuesday morning reportedly failed shortly after. Konstantinou clarified that the malfunction is unrelated to the recent technology upgrades that previously drew criticism from customs brokers. The department is working to resolve the issue to prevent a complete gridlock in the supply chain.
