Anastasia Anthousi files electoral challenge following seat allocation change

Anastasia Anthousi, a candidate for the DISY party in the 2026 parliamentary elections, has filed an official objection with the Electoral Court regarding seat allocation in the Nicosia district. The challenge concerns the count at a polling station in Nikitari, where an error involving five votes led to a redistribution of a parliamentary seat. These five votes, originally attributed to ELAM, were discovered to belong to EDEK, causing a shift in the second seat allocation process. Consequently, the seat originally slated for Anthousi, who received 7,606 votes, was awarded to Andreas Papacharalambous of ELAM. This change triggered a domino effect in other districts: in Limassol, Evi Tsolaki (DIKO) lost her seat to Michalis Kounounis (DISY); in Paphos, Michalis Michael (ELAM) lost his to Dimitris Barros (Direct Democracy); and in Kyrenia, Constantinos Kyprianou (Direct Democracy) lost his seat to Adamos Aspri (DIKO). Anthousi is now seeking a recount and the annulment of the current election result to be declared the rightful winner. The Ministry of Interior confirmed receipt of the objection, noting that the election night projections were not final despite being displayed as 100% complete.
