Fatal fire at a construction site in Brussels
A fire broke out shortly before 08:00 on Tuesday at a building under renovation in Brussels. The blaze began on the second floor and spread to the elevator shaft. Emergency services reported multiple fatalities discovered inside a construction elevator after gaining limited access to the shaft. At least six individuals remain missing, and authorities are currently investigating whether they are trapped in a second elevator that is not yet accessible. Three people sustained injuries during the incident; two were transported to the Neder-Over-Heembeek military hospital. The Brussels Labor Prosecutor’s Office, represented by Brecht Speybrouck, is leading the investigation into the exact number of victims. Operations are ongoing as firefighters continue to secure the site and search for additional persons who might be trapped elsewhere in the building.
