Fire at the OXY building in Brussels results in multiple fatalities
A fire broke out on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the OXY building site in central Brussels, where approximately 250 people were working. The fire, which began shortly before 08:00 local time on the second floor, spread to elevator shafts. Brussels labor prosecutors confirmed at least six fatalities were discovered inside one of the elevators. Rescue teams were initially unable to access a second elevator, keeping the total casualty count uncertain. Three individuals, including one firefighter suffering from heat exhaustion, were transported to hospitals. Belgium's King Philippe and Prime Minister Alexander De Croo visited the scene of the tragedy.
