Work meeting held on the upgrade of Kato Paphos harbor
The Municipality of Paphos and the Cyprus Ports Authority held a meeting this week to discuss a strategic plan for upgrading the Kato Paphos harbor. The proposed interventions include extending the harbor entrance and the breakwater behind the Medieval Castle to better protect the historical site and port facilities. Officials are exploring the construction of a 40–50 meter pier to accommodate larger cruise ships, which is intended to boost local tourism and the economy. Additional plans involve installing a fuel refueling station and upgrading the waste collection system for vessels to protect the marine environment. The acting Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, noted that discussions also cover the installation of a new unified canopy for shops along the waterfront. Beyond the municipality and port authority, the project involves coordination with the Department of Fisheries, the Port Police, and local professional stakeholders. The project is currently in the preliminary stages of strategic planning to resolve long-standing operational issues.
