Limassol municipality and public works department review cycling lane safety bollards
The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis, announced that the Limassol Municipality and the Department of Public Works have reached a preliminary agreement regarding the controversial safety bollards installed for new cycling lanes. Following public outcry, the Department of Public Works submitted a proposal to the Limassol Municipal Council to remove specific bollards in certain areas. These will be replaced with alternative road safety measures to balance traffic safety requirements with urban mobility needs. Minister Vafeadis noted that he facilitated high-level meetings between engineers and municipal authorities to assess the problems on-site. While acknowledging that the police set essential safety standards, the Minister stated that designs can be adapted to accommodate public feedback. The final implementation of these changes is currently pending approval by the Limassol Municipal Council.
